# Apple Watch Series 10 vs. 9: Is It Time for an Upgrade?

If you’ve been hearing all the hype around the new Apple Watch Series 10, you’re probably wondering whether to hang on to your current smartwatch or upgrade to the latest and greatest device. Well, you’ve come to the right place! Let’s break down what each model offers so you can decide if it’s time to treat yourself to something new.

## __Apple Watch Series 10: What’s new and exciting__
Apple Watch Series 10 just hit the shelves (available at [42mm](https://www.t-mobile.com/smart-watch/apple-watch-series-10-42mm) or [46mm](https://www.t-mobile.com/smart-watch/apple-watch-series-10-46mm)), and it’s bringing some cool new features that just might make upgrading worth your while. First and foremost, it has the latest and greatest chip: the S10 SiP with 64-bit dual-core processor. In addition to the powerful new chip, here are other features that are exclusive to Apple Watch Series 10:
- __Larger, brighter display.__ Apple Watch Series 10 comes with its biggest ever display, that’s easier to read and looks amazing. The wide-angle OLED display gives this smartwatch the largest screen area of any Apple Watch and it’s up-to 40 percent brighter when viewed from an angle.
- __New health feature.__ This model introduces an exciting new health upgrade: a sleep apnea monitor. Using a new metric called Breathing Disturbances, the watch will analyze your sleep every 30 days for sleep apnea, a potentially dangerous condition that causes some people to stop breathing while they’re sleeping.
- __Head-turning color option__. The high-gloss Jet Black aluminum color is an absolute stunner, and it’s a first for Apple Watch. You can also choose Rose Gold and Silver aluminum. Or the polished titanium finishes come in Natural, Gold, or Slate.
- __Sleeker, slimmer design__. Despite the big new display, Apple Watch Series 10 is thinner than everat 9.7mm—that’s about 10% thinner than Series 9, and it looks sleek and feels great on the wrist.
- __Better sound__. For the first time, you can now play audio back through the built-in speaker from Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, third-party apps and more. No AirPods required. As for phone calls, a new voice isolation neural network zaps background noise during calls, even in noisy or windy conditions.
- __Cool stuff for water lovers.__ For those who love surfing, snorkeling, diving or other water sports, you’ll appreciate the new depth gauge, water temperature sensor and Tides app, which can help you plan the perfect day in the water.
### __Apple Watch Series 9: A solid choice__
If all those new bells and whistles aren’t that important to you, Apple Watch Series 9 is still a great pick. Sure, the size options are smaller (Series 9 45mm or Series 9 41mm) than the Series 10 and it doesn’t offer a titanium design, but it still shares a lot of the same amazing features. Here are a few they both have in common:
- ECG app
- High and low heart rate notifications
- Irregular rhythm
- Low cardio fitness notifications
- Sleep tracking
- Vitals app featuring heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, and sleep duration
- Temperature sensing
- Cycle tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates
- Emergency SOS
- International emergency calling
- Fall detection and crash detection
- 50m water resistance
- Swimproof
- GPS
- Double tap gesture
- Fast on-device Siri with health data access
- Battery life up to 18 hours, or up to 36 hours (Low Power Mode)
### __So, what’s the verdict?__
If you’re happy with what Apple Watch Series 9 offers, it’s still an excellent choice. And with the new watch here, you may find an even better deal. But if you’re itching for the latest and greatest Apple Watch Series 10, the new features might make it worth your while. In the end, both watches will keep you connected and help you stay on top of your health. Still undecided?
