How your phone works with satellites.

  • Satellites are moving; so your phone will disconnect and reconnect to the next satellite automatically. 
  • You'll see a satellite icon in the upper right when connected—may look different by device.

No setup. No stress.

  • Just text like you normally would, no need to aim your phone at the sky.

  • No settings to adjust, it just works. 

  • There may be short gaps in service when satellites are moving.

  • During a gap, messages may take longer than usual to send, but your phone will keep trying, even in your pocket. 

  • Now, you can access apps like WhatsApp, AllTrails, and X with T-Satellite Data, no extra steps needed.

How to get the best service.

  • You don’t need to point your phone at the sky, but having a clear, unobstructed view will result in the best signal.
  • Dense forests or valleys may have more interruptions due to obstructions.
  • There are areas where we can’t offer satellite service because they are government-regulated, like borders and science zones.

We’re also rolling out picture messaging and satellite data as devices and apps become eligible – see if your device is eligible for these features here.   • Satellite data can keep you connected beyond just messaging.

    Because satellite connections have lower data speeds and limited capacity, satellite data is currently designed to work best with a growing list of optimized apps. These apps are tailored to perform well in low bandwidth conditions, helping you get the most out of your connection.

    T-Satellite optimized apps prioritize essential functionality while connected to T-Satellite. We’re partnering with app developers and we’ll keep expanding the list of supported apps. To see which apps work with satellite data, check our optimized apps list.

    • Experience Beyond & Go5G Next customers: No action needed—T-Satellite is included in your plan at no extra cost.
    • Experience More customers that were part of the beta: No action needed—T-Satellite will be included in your plan through the end of the year.

  • Over 60 phones work with T-Satellite. Since satellite networks work differently from traditional cell networks, we’re working with our handset partners to make sure as many smartphones as possible are optimized for the best experience.

    Nothing! Once you have T-Satellite, your phone will automatically connect to the satellite network when no other service is available. You’ll see the network name “T-Mobile SpaceX” or “T-Sat+Starlink” when connected. For more details, please refer to our support page.

     

  • T-Satellite currently covers the Continental U.S. including Puerto Rico, Hawaii and parts of southern Alaska. Check out our coverage map to see where coverage is available. We are also collaborating with our global roaming partners and SpaceX to offer satellite services to our customers when traveling abroad or in international waters in the future. 

  • When connected via satellite, messages may take a little longer to send or receive. That’s totally normal and depends on satellite coverage and connection conditions. Since satellites are moving overhead, your phone will disconnect from one and automatically reconnect to the next. Don’t worry - your phone keeps working in the background to make sure your messages get through as soon as possible. 

    Satellite data is different from traditional cellular data. It’s specially designed to work with certain optimized apps, so you get the best possible experience. Visit our support page to see which apps are currently supported. 

  • Yes! While T-Mobile customers enjoy the best benefits, non-T-Mobile customers can still sign up for T-Satellite by calling 1-800-937-8997 or visiting a Retail store.

  • While you can already text 911 to reach emergency services, with T-Satellite, you can now even do so off the grid. Even if you don’t have T-Satellite, with T-Mobile Text to 911, anyone with a compatible phone can reach emergency services via satellite, free of charge.

    NOTE: If you have one of the following phones, satellite emergency service is already built in, so your phone is not eligible for T-Mobile Text to 911.

    • iPhone 14 and later

    If you're using a different satellite-optimized phone, you're eligible to enroll.
