  • Oct 2018: First to successfully use 5G in the field on 28 GHz
  • Sept 2018: First major wireless provider in the U.S. to deploy Google Emergency Location Service (ELS) in Android  
  • Sept 2018: First LTE-Advanced Massive MIMO FDD TM9 call on commercial network & equipment
  • Sept 2018: First multi-vendor 3GPP based 5G data call using commercial radios and Intel’s mmWave RF chip
  • Sept 2018: Frist U.S. mobile-to-mobile 5G New Radio (NR) video call
  • Jul 2018: America’s first nationwide NB-IoT network live

  • Feb 2018: Industry first to achieve download speeds of 1.3 Gbps with License Assisted Access (LAA) and five component carrier aggregation on 14 antenna layers 
  • Feb 2018: First lab and field tests of NB-IoT in guard bands 
  • Aug 2017: First in the world to light up LTE in 600 MHz 
  • Aug 2017: First major wireless provider in the world to place no. 1 in every category of the OpenSignal State of Mobile Networks report
  • Jul 2017: First wireless provider In North America to field test Narrowband IoT on a live commercial network
  • Jun 2017: Completed nation’s first live trial of License Assisted Access (LAA) showing 741 Mbps download speeds
  • Jun 2017: First national wireless provider to make LTE-U, an LTE-Advanced technology, available to customers
  • Oct 2016: First to deploy AWS-3 (Band 66), providing even more spectrum capacity for calls, texts, streams, and file uploads and downloads
  • Sep 2016: First with 256 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), an LTE-Advanced technology, which provides a higher resolution data signal for increased speeds
  • Sep 2016: First with 4x4 MIMO (Multi-In Multi-Out), an LTE-Advanced technology, which doubles speeds over 4x2 MIMO, allowing four radios at the cell site to send and receive signals with four antennas on the smartphone
  • Apr 2016: First with Enhanced Voice Services, an LTE-Advanced technology, which improves voice call reliability and fidelity over HD Voice
  • Feb 2016: First to trial deployment of License Assisted Access, an LTE-Advanced technology. LAA is an exciting innovation that will increase network efficiency and throughput speeds using unlicensed spectrum
  • Nov 2015: First and only to offer free 4G LTE CellSpots, the first-ever 4G LTE mini-tower available from a U.S. wireless provider for full-bar T-Mobile LTE coverage throughout your home, small business or virtually anywhere you need it
  • Sep 2015: First with Video Calling so you can see and hear family and friends right from your device’s dialer and right out of the box using LTE or Wi-Fi
  • Jul 2015: First with RCS-based Advanced Messaging for rich 1 on 1 and group messaging, including near real-time chat right out of the box
  • Sep 2014: First with Wi-Fi Calling worldwide allowing you to move seamlessly between our LTE network and any available Wi-Fi connection (VoLTE w/ eSRVCC is an LTE-Advanced technology)
  • May 2014: First to launch VoLTE, an LTE-Advanced technology, for faster call connections, fast LTE data speeds while on a call, HD Voice and seamless transitions between 2G/4G and LTE networks
  • Jan 2013: First with HD Voice, and first to launch it nationwide, for crystal clear call quality
  • Sep 2008: First to launch an Android™ powered mobile phone – the G1
  • Jun 2007: First to launch Wi-Fi Calling with T-Mobile Hotspot @Home, allowing call handoffs from 2G to Wi-Fi
