Re: Hotspot "Requiring" a VPN?!?!?!
followup... i had a chance to be in a different part of town this morning with my computer to try this again. first i confirmed that my iPhone had plenty of data signal. surfing webpages in Safari worked fine. so then i connected my Mac to my iPhone's hotspot, and nope - could not pull up "any" webpages, until i turned on the VPN on my Mac, then webpages loaded just fine. this is just so super strange to me (and annoying). so i'm still hoping someone has some good advice about it. even if it's a less stressful way of communicating with T-Mobile support (or a way to reach a more knowledgeable support person).16Views0likes0CommentsHotspot "Requiring" a VPN?!?!?!
i have thought it was just a fluke here & there, but for many months now i have noticed that ALL THE TIME when i connect my Mac to my iPhone Hotspot, i cannot load ANY website unless i turn ON my VPN. this is around the Nashville, TN area - Hermitage, Old Hickory, Madison, etc etc. it is consistent behavior. you'd think the opposite would be true, but nope. anyone else running into this? i hesitate to call T-Mobile tek support for fear it would be a very long runaround with low level folks who have no idea and just want to take me thru the usual useless paces. does T-Mo monitor this community or is it just user-to-user? any ideas about this? thanks.59Views1like1CommentRe: iPhone Hotspot Not Working In Starbucks
hmmm, next time i'm there i'll see if my iPhone has internet access & cell service by itself. if it does; if i can call, text, and surf the internet in Safari, then i presume Starbucks wifi & building are 'not' interfering - right? if that works, and it doesn't only via my Mac when connected to my hotspot, then what else might be the issue? thanks!25Views0likes0CommentsiPhone Hotspot Not Working In Starbucks
my iPhone > Mac hotspot works very well... except when inside a Starbucks. for some reason, i can connect to it fine, but zero webpages load. this forces me to connect to the Starbucks Wifi, which is something i do not want to do. curious if anyone else has this issue. more curious if anyone can explain why/how this happens and if there's a way to fix it. is it possible that Starbucks can somehow block personal hotspot usage, or is it just a coincidence that T-Mobile data is somehow down only when i'm inside a Starbucks?95Views0likes2Comments
