T-Mobile 5G modem and Nest Wifi Router

Do I need Google Home if I just want to use the Nest wifi ROUTER with the 5g modem?  Do I have to have google home if I don’t use google home for anything else?  Should I see the router blinking yellow?  How do I know if it’s working?
