SA 5G

Ever since the last update to 5G stand alone my download speed went from 250 to 30. This is not good. I have an antenna on my roof too.

This is what happened to me. Big outage here on 7/2. They sent me the TMO4GAR and after I installed it came up in 5G stand-alone using N25 and was basically unuseable. I’m in a rural area with a lot of trees.  After about 12 hours it switched to LTE b66 and 5G n71 and I was back to pre outage performance.  Upload has never been good here and download CAN be great but varies wildly.  I ordered the Waveform QuadPro but haven’t installed it.  Now I don’t want to change anything since they basically give you no control over band selection or locking.

Same here in rural area outage on 7/15.  Can't get back to n71 where things were working.
Just got new Waveform QuadPro installed with high hopes.  Unfortunately I have to report little to no change.  There seems to be something about the external antenna ports on the G4AR that under-perform the internal antennas.  Varies wildly from day to day and hour to hour.
Going to call tech support again.  This crap is getting old and I am running out of patience and money to buy stuff I should not need to buy.

That is most unfortunate that the QuadPro made little improvement.  I have no direct experience with the G4AR...but I recall this being mentioned in the past with regard to the antenna ports. First off...I believe there is "switch" somewhere (perhaps in the T-Life app) where you have to tell the router to use the external ports....did you do this?

You aren't the only one. The firmware update is a dud. More than likely they'll release another one to fix the problem

  • That's pretty bad.   My performance is "about the same" for the most part.  But I have noticed that in 5G SA mode I now occasionally connect to band N25...which never happened before with 5G/4GLTE, and my speeds seem to be lower when that happens (I'm pretty far from the tower and I think that band is intended for shorter distances).

Just had same experience.  The G4AR gateway with a T-mobile External Antenna connected will have trouble with the N25 band.   The T-mo external antenna becomes a loss instead of a gain at 1900Mhz ( N25).  This will kill your performance.   When I switched to internal antenna N25 and N41 started working SA mode ( Stand Alone) .  I verified by repeating the experiment.   For sure the External antenna is the problem.   I am now looking at the Waveform QuadPro High Gain MIMO with 9dB of gain.   Everyone seems to think this is the ideal solution ( look up "Nater Tater" YT channel) .  It is expensive, but reports are a sale is happening 2nd week of July 2025.
Long discussion with Tech support and many measurements certified this condition.   Turns out T-mo inherited the N25 band from the Sprint Merger and have been implementing it since first of the year 2025.   It hits everyone at different times but will degrade your experience if your in a fringe area.
Can't wait to get the Waveform antenna so the gateway can go back inside out of the weather.  Also can't believe T-mo is still selling the crap external antenna for $100, it is now junk.

So the antenna you're looking at specifically supports N25?
