Nintendo Online cannot play with other T-Mobile subscribers
Forgot these hot aired people.
The problem is a 5G Nokia gateway will not change your global IP address on your switch, even if you create a Wi-Fi connection with no security through 192.168.12.1, it still won't work. Global IP ending in .xx.xx.226 (I've seen it change to .xx.xx.224) all the time you will not connect to Mario Kart 8. Not sure how much support is left for the game as Nintendo stated a new Mario Kart is coming out this year. If you got a 2024 5G T-Mobile device (2024 BYOD works too) turn on your hotspot and put encryption to: NONE.
Watch how your global IP address always changes when you reconnect to your smartphone's hotspot.
You may need to turn your hotspot on and off a few times before connecting but each time you run an internet test it should change your global IP address and if it does not well you'll get same issue as you did with your "GATEWAY", see that, keyword there. So, you'll always be using the Gateway's global IP address on the internet and nothing you can do about it. Here it is again: GATE-WAY!
