Gateway device renamed itself

I didnt see my Tmobile internet name on network scan but I saw another tmobile name that was different but I verified it was my gateway.  Why did it rename itself with a different password?  I revised with the old password and changed the gateway name and we’re back to normal but can someone explained what happened?
