I live in a major metropolitan area - why do I only get two bars at best??

reason im asking about other phones is it could end up being your phone or the sim card in it..if others are running into the same issues then its pointing more at network and not so much the phone…
reason i asked why stay is once you step outside you no longer have signal until god only knows when..might be getting to that time to switch up to someone that covers that area better.
depending on how old that phone is here before to long they will be shutting down 3G..so unless your phone has VoLTE (Voice over LTE) capabilities you wont be able to make/receive calls and almost positive you wont be able to send/receive regular texts.
