Questions about Digits and emergency phone & text

Recently lost my phone for a day,  I had a pretty good idea that I would be able to recover it so I did not report it stolen, remotely erase it, etc.    Fortunately I did get it back but am seeking advice on any way to continue to receive and make calls and texts I am not in possession of my phone.   I downloaded Digits but have found some issues.  First issue is that to login into the web app, I have to authenticate with an sms message.  If I don’t have the phone obviously that is impossible.  Does not appear to be an alternate authentication method such as Google Authenticator.  Second issue, the forums indicate that Digits dis not support all short codes, has that been addressed yet?
