message displays wrong number
Transferred number but messages sent comes up on others phone with number on phone before transfer.
Answer:
Figured it out. The problem is that some people not getting the correct ID (sending telephone number) when I message them. The reason for this is that I have been using the Chat (aka JIBE) which appears to be an integral to new versions of Android. Chat uses RCS over WIFI and mobile data. If WIFI and mobile data are not available, it reverts to traditional SMS. When SMS messages are sent, recipients are seeing the correct sending telephone number, When sending over WIFI or mobile data, recipients are seeing the old incorrect temporary number.
The Chat function has a telephone number associated with it. In my case, it was the temporary number provided by T-Mobile when I ported my old telephone number from Verizon to T-Mobile. Effectively, the temporary number got stuck in the Chat function and Chat did not recognize and incorporate the new ported telephone number.
To fix this issue of wrong telephone number being displayed on sent messages the following is suggested:
Go to three dots on the Chat messaging page > select settings > select Advanced > select Phone number and type in the correct telephone number even if if the correct number is already displayed
Go back to three dots > Settings > Turn on chat function
Go through phone number verification process (the verification process may take about 30 minutes to receive a final verification)

Awesome! Thank you very much for figuring this out! I've had it going on almost two month when I switched numbers and haven't had time to deal with it. Chat! Who knew? Only people that i RCS/chat with. Thanks again

Just to add my own situation to this, if your chat function is already enabled and shows the wrong number, turn it off first before following these steps. Changing the number in Advanced settings while chat function is enabled won’t do anything.

to them no..but they can see the number you send to though (not the actual messages). they should be able to track it being sent through their system and delivery of the text.

Thanks for the response. I’ve call tech support several times. They say there is no way I can send a sample text to them to verify the situation. I guess I will try one more time providing the information you listed above. Thanks again.

thats the weird part though..some are getting the correct number showing up but some are not.. thats where the weirdness comes in..i have zero ideas where to go from here on this one. the TMO agent is going to have to look at how the texts are being sent on their end and see which number its pushing from. you’ll need to tell them of a time stamp of one being sent that shows up correctly and one that was sent that did not show up with the correct number.

I had a friend delete my contact information on his phone. He also deleted all messages from me. However, when I sent a new message, the incorrect number appeared. The number that appears is the temporary number used when I ported my telephone number over to t-mobile. When I call people, they see the proper number. When I message people, most get the correct number but a few are still getting the temporary number. This has been going on for six weeks.

have the ones still seeing this fully delete you from their phone (call history, texts, VM and from their contacts) and start fresh with inputting everything new..might be hanging up on their ends with ongoing texts or some weird thing. cant exactly hurt if it doesnt work.
