Supported 1,500 Wi-Fi access points throughout the venue. Coverage strong enough to deliver gigabit download speeds including 16K video. Users at the Grand Prix transmitted 213 terabytes of data. The mandate from organizers of the FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN SILVER LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX was straightforward: deliver a new kind of experience for F1 fans. It was a high-speed challenge, but one we enthusiastically embraced—and exceeded by leveraging the industry-leading capabilities of our Ultra-Capacity 5G network. As many as 300,000 fans hit the network en masse to track their favorite drivers racing around the streets of an entertainment capital already bustling with visitors. To serve those fans, the race’s organizers sought a unique, first-of-its-kind experience that brought spectators closer to the action. The event also required a robust network for the vendors of food and merchandise to process credit card purchases on hundreds of point-of-sale devices. To achieve those goals, we leveraged our Advanced Network Solutions (5G ANS), which integrated a range of technologies into a single network that eliminated key pain points, streamlined network management, and reduced costs. “Success would have been completely impossible without a partner like T-Mobile,” said Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc. Upgrading Las Vegas. Delivering a fan-connected grand prix also required building out the area’s Wi-Fi capabilities for anyone needing connectivity by means other than a cellular link. The e-ticketing system, for instance, worked over a Wi-Fi network augmented by access points installed at entrances to the event. E-ticketing went off without a hitch, as did other critical back-of-the-house functions. We also made cellular network enhancements across Las Vegas. Four new short-range cellular base stations were installed along Las Vegas Boulevard—a.k.a. The Strip—and permanent coverage was added at 13 popular locations, including Caesars Palace, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, MGM Grand, and Harry Reid Airport. The installations included the hub of the race: the three-story pit building. There, we designed a distributed antenna system (DAS) for every floor, and installed others to cover the nearby grandstands. DAS distributes cellular signals from a single source to multiple antennas and is commonly used in heavily populated structures, such as office towers, sports stadiums, or shopping malls. __The e-ticketing system worked over a Wi-Fi network augmented by access points installed at entrances to the event.__ Fan-tastic apps. Our massive network investments meant that fans who downloaded the F1 Las Vegas app could follow the open-wheel cars in real time as they raced around the streets of the city. T-Mobile was also the presenting partner for the Las Vegas Grand Prix app, which was downloaded 118,000 times. That app helped guide fans as they made their way around the edges of the racecourse and the event’s surroundings, using built-in 3D mapping and smart navigation. The app also included a Formula 1 first: The Las Vegas Strip Circuit™ 360° Track View. It gave fans access to a driver’s-eye view of an F1 car speeding around the track. To capture the footage, we mounted a high-resolution, 360-degree, 5G-connected video camera on a car driving the entire route of the circuit. Acing the test. Putting it all together required close coordination and collaboration with our customer, an approach we take with every T-Mobile for Business mission. We set up a war room in Henderson, Nevada, just outside Las Vegas, to monitor operations during the event. And our field technicians were strategically located around the track to respond in real time if needed. Meanwhile, network slicing—the ability to allocate portions of the 5G bandwidth to specific types of traffic—meant critical operations functioned without interference. Case in point: 230 point-of-sale devices operated in the T-Mobile Sphere Zone on a dedicated network slice, supporting more than 50,000 transactions totaling millions of dollars in food and merchandise sales. Our Ultra-Capacity 5G enabled tens of thousands of fans to follow the race as it happened and easily share photos and videos. At its peak, more than 100,000 people were simultaneously on the network, and users attending the race transmitted 213 terabytes of data. Liberty Media and Formula 1 have committed to hosting the action-packed event in Las Vegas annually through 2025, and we’ll continue to serve as a key technology partner. At T-Mobile for Business, the Las Vegas Grand Prix will be an innovation hub and large-scale demo of our 5G technical and customer-collaboration leadership for years to come. __Our Ultra-Capacity 5G enabled tens of thousands of fans to follow the race as it happened and easily share photos and videos.__ Key takeaways. -  ## Massive network demands. As the Las Vegas Grand Prix’s networking partner, we exceeded expectations by leveraging the capabilities of our Ultra-Capacity 5G network and Advanced Network Solutions (ANS). -  ## Customized collaboration. We brought the hands-on customer collaboration our company is known for. Our remote operation center continuously monitored performance, while our on-site field technicians addressed any needs in real time. -  ## Network enhancements. We made extensive network enhancements at the race site and across Las Vegas, including installation of new short-range cellular base stations, Wi-Fi access points, and distributed antenna systems to ensure full connectivity for citizens, fans, and racing operations. -  ## Innovative solutions. We leveraged 5G ANS to use network slicing to ensure dedicated access for vendors and racing operators.
