BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (BYOD)

Bring your own device to T-Mobile.

Now your employees can access company email, systems, and data on their own device or a compatible company-owned device—all on the network that now connects 99% of Americans.

BENEFITS

Why consider BYOD for your business:

Increase employee productivity.

Your employees are already familiar with their own personal devices, which can often make them more productive than needing to learn how to use a new device.

Consider employee preferences.

With BYOD, employees aren’t required to use a device they don’t like, or carry and upkeep more than one device.

Save your business money.

BYOD gives your business the flexibility to use company-owned devices or allow employees to use their own. No need to purchase additional devices—all you need to do is add a plan.

Got questions about BYOD?

How do I know if I can bring my own device to T-Mobile?

Bringing your phone to T-Mobile is typically the fastest, easiest, and most economical way to join T-Mobile. To bring your own phone, first check if your phone is compatible with the T-Mobile network. Not all phones have the same network hardware, and it may not work well with T-Mobile's network. If your phone is not compatible, we recommend purchasing a new phone from T-Mobile. Second, your phone must be unlocked to switch to T-Mobile. If your phone is locked, you must contact your current carrier and request it be unlocked.

How do I join T-Mobile once I’ve checked if my device is compatible?

After checking if your phone is compatible, follow these steps:

  1. Purchase a T-Mobile SIM Card and a T-Mobile Plan.
  2. Replace the existing SIM card in your phone with the new T-Mobile SIM Card.
  3. Optional: Request to transfer your phone number to T-Mobile after installing new SIM card.

If you have questions, please call us at 1-877-590-4728, or visit your nearest T-Mobile store.

Can I keep my existing phone number if I bring my device?

Most phone numbers can be transferred to T-Mobile, but please check the transfer eligibility of your existing number. After you have installed your new T-Mobile SIM, contact us via 1-877-590-4728, or visit a store, to complete the transfer process. When you contact us, you will need to share the following information with us to complete the transfer request.

  • Previous Carrier Name
  • Previous Carrier Account Number
  • Account Pin Number
  • Phone Number to be Ported In
We recommend backing up your contacts, voicemail, and text messages prior to transferring your number to T-Mobile. During the process, you may have dual service for up to 24 hours, meaning you will be active on both carrier networks. Do not cancel your previous wireless service until you receive a confirmation text message from T-Mobile that the transfer is complete.

What is a SIM card?

SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. The SIM card identifies your phone to the network. You will need a T-Mobile SIM card to connect to T-Mobile’s Network.

Will the T-Mobile SIM card work in any device?

Yes, the T-Mobile 3-in-1 SIM Starter Kit fits all GSM phones. The kit includes 3 varied sizes that can fit most phones. When you pull out your previous card, you can match it to the T-Mobile one. See video instructions on how to replace your SIM.

Can I bring other devices like laptops or mobile hotspots to T-Mobile?

Yes, if your device has a cellular radio in it that is compatible with T-Mobile’s network, you can use it. Refer to the device manufacturer’s website for details. If you have questions, take your device to the nearest T-Mobile store and we’ll be happy to help you.
