Nothing Comes Close!
From the Galaxy S2 to the Galaxy S3 to the Note 2 nothing comes close.
Iphone should not even be compared its not on the same level. If you can get use to the size and it's not that hard you will never go back to anything else. A few hours with the Note and all other phones seem too small. Samsung powered by android is way ahead of the game. I will add that if you get an android phone install SwiftKey 3 its the best keyboard application on earth. Sound quality on the Note is excellent, music never sounded this good, Excellent job Samsung, you really nailed it this time.

Amazing phone if you have room for it
Awesome on every measure. Battery life-my G2 always had to be plugged in sometime during the day or in the car to make until I got home, even with a juice enhancer app. Even with me needing to play with the new phone nonstop, after 15 hours unplugged, I still had 20% battery.
No need to comment on the screen, nothing like it out there. You actually have enough room to write notes with the stylus. The speaker doesn't sound tinny, it actually has a full range sound and can be turned up very loud. There is even a graphic equalizer if that gives you an idea. Camera quality is great.
The swipe style typing has really improved and the AI for word prediction is actually useful. All around amazing phone and very thin without the hardshell case. If you have small hands it may be a little unwieldy to use 1 handed, although it does have a 1 hand operation mode which moves all of the buttons toward the bottom left or right corner.
Worth the extra hundred dollars over lesser phones. You won't be disappointed.

Just using it in the store... I'LL TAKE 2!
Me and my dad were in the tmobile store today and right when we walked in our eyes went right to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. After oh- say about an hour- LOL we fell in love with it and just played with the apps and messaging unil we had to go. The screen may be big, but it is sure worth it. I think this phone stands out from the mainstream Iphone 4s and 5. Some people just dont know what else is out there aside from the famous Iphone 5 that just EVERYONE wants! Look around people! This is what technology really is! Spectacullar! Buying it Friday and we are so excited :)

Now I get the point...
Of why everyone wants to buy such a big phone.
When the original Note came out I never gave it much thought since I figured it would be too big for the hand. The other day when I went to a T Mobile store to try out the Nexus 4 and HTC 8x, I decided to try out the Note 2 just to see what it was like. After about 10 minutes, you get so absorbed in the amazing screen and S Pen features that you forget how big the device actually is. For such a low pixel density, the screen is actually better looking than the S3 and most of its competitors. As expected, typing was great; landscape mode almost felt like a full size keyboard! Also, there was a full web browser which was very fast and functional, easy to use with the screen size.
I ended up going with the Nexus anyway (once it was in stock) because of the price and the fact that the Note didn't fit in my pocket, so I didn't get to try out very much, but it's crazy fast. It also has LTE built in for when it reaches T-Mobile, unlike the other devices. The S Pen features seem a little pointless, but they provide lots of new things to explore. The phone doesn't look all that great, but at least it is more durable than the S3. My only real gripe other than the size was the screen seemed to be not very touch responsive.
