Rated 1 out of 5 by really bad phone Got this phone in october and about 2 weeks with the phone it started auto booting it self like 3 to 4 times a day. Called tmobile they send me another one and the new one did the samething when i was restoring it. Had to call tmobile for a third one. Cant wait for the six months to be up and go back to windows. Rated 3 out of 5 by Bulky Phone-- A Step Back in Samsung's Galaxy Line Traded in my Samsung Galaxy S4 on the T-Mobile's JUMP 2.0 program for this new Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, since my old phone started not recognizing the SIM after firmware upgrade to Kit Kat. What a mistake it was. Had to return it within a week at a $50 restocking fee penalty. Yes, it was that bad, even for a long time Samsung Galaxy user like me... First of all, the phone is bulky and heavy; it is hard to use with one hand and is impossible to carry in the pants' pocket (especially while seated, such as when driving)... And then there is a major issue with the new dual Mini/Micro USB charging port design: it is hard to plug into, especially at night or when not looking at the phone directly; also the waterproof rubber flip-on cover for the charging port constantly gets in a way, and was so annoying that I had to take it off (fortunately it comes off without a need to tear it off)... Another big gripes is with the new Kit Kat-based Touch Wiz UI: Samsung has decided to change the functionality of the pop-up menu left capacitive button to instead of bringing up the Settings menu, to bring up the Running Apps list screen... It is very inconvenient, IMHO, if you are already used to going to the Settings menu through that button... The camera is so-so, although an overall improvement over Galaxy S4's camera; but still performs poorly in low-light, as well as auto-focusing is still lagging when compared to other devices, such as iPhones... The battery life is so-so as well. Also, the new back cover made of the dimpled faux-leather material is not very appealing or stylish either, despite being an overall improvement over the cheap plastic material used in the predecessors in this lineup... The only thing which is really great about this phone is the voice quality and the screen: it is full HD and is sharp and very vivid and bright. But again, it is not much different from Samsung Galaxy S4 or LG G2... To me, the new LG G3 (or even the old LG G2) has a better screen: it displays the whites whiter, and the text sharper than Galaxy S5... But overall, it is a great screen.... Samsung Galaxy S5 has a stronger 4G LTE signal in comparison to Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC Sensation that I had... It has a great Wi-FI as well. Speaker phone and overall voice quality are good as well. Speakerphone is loud and clear, although i snot stereo (no comparison to HTC Beats, or even the old Nokia MediaPlayer of course)... The phone is sturdy and durable overall, and is touted to be water and dust-proof... In summary, for its size and weight, one is probably better off getting a really large fablet like Note 4, Note 4 Edge, Nexus 6, etc., since S5 is already hard to use, and is mediocre in performance, while having only 5.1" screen to offer for all that heftiness (just 0.1" larger than its predecessor--Samsung Galaxy S4)... Or...if you are like me, who carries his phones in his pants' pocket, go back to the Samsung Galaxy S4 or any other <=5"/<=5oz Android phone... January 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by the best data speeds around My friends have the same phone on other carriers and yet I get better speeds and coverage than them. It is an amazing phone with fast speeds a great camera and plenty of features. I wouldn't even think about an iphone, you might call me bias but i have had both and still, Galaxy all the way! Rated 5 out of 5 by great device, 1 major draw back Amazing device, I recommend it to everyone. The big thing I've noticed though is that emojis aren't part of the keyboard, they're part of the texting app. The problem with that is you can't put emojis on social media. Hopefully will be updated January 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT UPGRADE FROM S2!!! I upgraded from my three and a half year old Galaxy S2 which would no longer charge via USB, so required swapping batteries on a daily basis. I also wanted a device that would accept a wireless charging receiver which the S2 would not (easily). I was especially attracted to the GS5 by the water resistance since a dunk in the toilet had caused the USB failure. Additionally I wanted Android, removable SD card, removable battery, IR blaster, WiFi calling and hotspot. I considered LG G3, HTC 1 M8, Sony Xperia Z3 and Galaxy S4 before deciding on the S5. Of course it has proven a substantial upgrade from my previous S2. Android has many new features. The navigation is greatly improved as are the email features. Everything is faster and perhaps more reliable as well. I have Bluetooth and WiFi on constantly and stream lots of music and the (larger) battery is giving me many hours of additional use compared with the old S2. Previously the GPS had drained my battery very quickly but this GPS seems to have significantly less effect on battery life. The front facing camera is great for selfies even at the 2.1 MP. The 16 MP camera takes very good pictures though low light images without flash are somewhat noisy but still not too bad. The flash works well too. I did not consider the fingerprint scanner or the heart rate reader as necessary but they seem to work well and I actually am finding myself taking my heart rate daily and have begun using the pedometer. I have not even tried the air view or some of the gesture functions but I love that the phone screen goes off when I hold the phone to my ear. The S5 SIM is physically smaller than that for the S2 so i called t- mobile to transfer my number. My contacts and most of my apps then transferred automatically to the new phone after logging in to Google. I also had installed Samsung Smart Switch app so I am not certain if that provided the app transfer but I used it for transferring some data. I will mention that I did put a Tech Armor ballistic glass screen protector on and I believe it may be ever so slightly affecting swiping....really barely noticeable. I am very happy with the phone so far after one month of use. I do notice that lots of programs are running in the background and only about 500 MB of the 2 GB of RAM is ever available. I wish there was a hard copy manual included. A little booklet is provided but it is very incomplete. The full manual is online only. I have not experienced any problems and am happy so far after more than one month of use. January 5, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by love the phone the charger is bad I bought this phone in October 2014, I really love it i use it all day every day, I've stopped taking my laptop to work because this phone does everything I needed the laptop for. my big problem with this phone is the charger, after being stored in the same safe place for the past 3 ish months it broke. it's been plugged into the same place which is a plug behind my couch, for whatever reason it stopped working, I sent the entire morning trouble shooting a phone that's never been dropped and never been wet, Samsung told me it would be a month before they would look at the warranty, luckily the guy at t mobile trouble shot the cord and got my phone working again. but there is no reason for a well taken care of wire to stop working for no reason. Rated 1 out of 5 by T-Mobile's costliest phone doesn't work as a phone When I first got this phone, I thought it was the best phone I'd ever got. As a computer-like device, it's fast, has a nice big, sharp, bright display, it's awesome! Unless I want to make a call. At this point, it's useless. For whatever reason, for the last four months, any time I've attempted to make a call, it simply said "no". It would also never receive a call; calls would invariably go straight to my voicemail, and I'd be in the position of being unable to call people back. For months I limped along using Skype-out when I needed to actually call someone. I finally got a candy-bar and presently use the S5 as the tablet it has the capabilities of. January 5, 2015

Yes. You once your phone is paid off, it’s paid off. From that point on you will only pay be billed for the T-Mobile rate plan, and services, or features you’ve chosen.

You can upgrade your phone at any time. If you have an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) you’ll need to pay that off first, then you’re free to select a new phone. It’s as easy as that. If you cancel wireless service, remaining balance on phone becomes due.

To find out if you’re eligible for a rebate or a promotion all you need to do is answer a few simple questions.

Other carriers recover the cost of the phone with higher recurring monthly rate plan charges. Their customers continue to pay higher monthly rates even after the phone is paid off. Only T-Mobile offers a plan that automatically lowers the cost of the monthly bill when the phone is paid off.

We offer free, overnight shipping on certain new phones and devices. Otherwise, we will send your purchase using standard 2-4 business days shipping. Look for special promotions where all phones and devices include free, overnight shipping.

No. When you group phones into a family plan when purchasing on T-Mobile.com, you must either pay for all of them up front, or over time.

No. If you choose to pay over time, your payments will be interest-free.

You must purchase insurance within the first 14 days of buying a new device. To learn more about Premium Handset Protection Insurance or to learn about our other bundled features simply follow the link.

Learn more about Premium Handset Protection

If you cancel your service, you still need to pay off the remaining balance of the device.

Unlike other carriers that give you a discounted rate on the phone up front and then bury the costs in your monthly bill, we charge you the full retail price. In order to make payments more manageable, qualifying new and current customers can take advantage of our Equipment Installment Plan (EIP).

    Here's how phone payments work:

EIP (Equipment Installment Plan) pricing allows qualifying customers to get a new phone with an initial down payment and make monthly payments on the phone for 20 months with no interest charges. For example, if you purchased a new phone for $550 and put $150 down, you pay $20/month for 20 months, plus the low monthly cost of your Value Plan. Value Plan pricing is only available at T-Mobile.

The following restrictions apply to all EIPs:

    • Non-Value plans, T‐Mobile Monthly4G prepaid plans and certain business accounts are not eligible for EIPs.
    • Customers in Washington, DC and Puerto Rico are not eligible for EIPs.
    • The minimum required purchase for an EIP is $19.99.
    • Due to state regulations, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, West Virginia and Wyoming do not allow purchases on a 24‐month EIP.
    • If you leave T-Mobile you’re still obligated to pay off the remaining balance of the device.

Learn more about our Equipment Installment Plan

Depending on which rate plan you choose, you may also be charged an add a line fee; see rate plan for details. Taxes and shipping will also be applied to your order total.

Whether you choose to pay for your device up front today, or pay over time, you can upgrade your device at any time. If your current device has not yet been paid off, you will need to continue to make payments on the existing balance. For the well-qualified buyer, pay over time pricing will spread interest-free payments over 24 months. If you cancel wireless service, remaining balance on phone becomes due.

You need a credit check for a couple of reasons. First, if you are applying for an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) it’s standard practice for us to check your credit. If you want to keep your existing phone number we need to determine if it’s eligible to be transferred.

Just like all other wireless carriers, T-Mobile has to charge enough to cover the cost of the phone. The difference is that T-Mobile separates the cost of the phone from the cost of the service. That means T-Mobile customers finish paying for their phone as soon the actual cost is paid off—and their monthly bill automatically drops.
