Rated 3 out of 5 by Expect to replace the battery! I bought this phone from T-Mobile in late January, 2015. Within a few months, the battery life began to wane. I took it to Apple in early October, 2015. They told me the battery could only hold a 35% charge 35%. Worse, it only had about 300 charge cycles on it, meaning the battery was new when I bought the phone. The Apple tech said it was most likely a 3rd party battery. If I had known that T-Mobile would put a sub-par battery in the phone, I would have just gotten a new one from Apple. Other than that, the phone has been great. October 8, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst IPhone they ever produced I got the version 5 in May 2013 and in 2 1/2 years, I am on my 4th phone -- all for the same reason -- the battery/logic board fails. The first two phones were under warranty -- but in 2015 with a resale value much below cost, I dropped the warranty only for the next one to die for the same reasons as the other two. I think there is a reason why Apple only made the iPhone5 for 1 year. The failure rate is much higher than normal. I am soured on Apple. September 21, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Don't buy I've had my iPhone 5 for almost two years now. the first 3 months were great but after that the battery has gotten so bad. I will charge my phone and an hour later it's back to 1%. Also it always dies on me when the battery says it is at 65%. Not something I would buy again. July 11, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Don't buy! I didn't heed those who reviewed before me saying how bad the batteries on these things were, and I paid the price. I bought one, charged it, and it lasted somewhere between one and two hours - not talking time, but sitting on my desk time. Charged it overnight, and the next day the same thing - you could watch the battery power indicator diminish in real time. It doesn't matter how good the call quality is or how easy it is to operate if it only operates an hour before it conks out. Now I have a dead phone. I'm going back to an archaic flip phone June 3, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by BAD battery and I'm on my 5th certified Tmobile Tmobile has sent me my 4th certified phone and 2 out of 4 phones had battery issues. April 27, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Correction - Do buy! I wrote the review below titled "Don't Buy!" because the phone seemingly had a dead battery with no signs of life. I had charged it, or tried to, a couple of times for 6 hours, and it wouldn't spring back to life - at least not for long. One time it showed the battery fully charged, and less than 2 hours later it was out of power. Anyway, I charged it for more than one full day, and a miracle happened - it now works as intended, and the battery doesn't die. No clue why that is - maybe if the phone's been out of use for a long time, it needs a very long initial charge to get going again, but for whatever reason, it's now working like a charm. Rated 5 out of 5 by Love my Iphone 5 I love my Iphone5. I had the iphone 4s a few years back then I switched to Android and the Samsung Galaxy s5. After about a year I decided to switch back to the Iphone and I have been happy with my decision its so much better for group texting. All the apps work great. March 25, 2015

To upgrade early, you’ll need to pay off your entire Equipment Installment Plan. You can do this by calling Customer Care or visiting a T-Mobile retail store.

Yes. You once your phone is paid off, it’s paid off. From that point on you will only pay be billed for the T-Mobile rate plan, and services, or features you’ve chosen.

When your new phone arrives simply follow the manufacturer’s set-up procedure and start using it. If you purchased a new T-Mobile SIM card to use in your own device, you will need to insert the new card and then you are good to go.

You can upgrade your phone at any time. If you have an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) you’ll need to pay that off first, then you’re free to select a new phone. It’s as easy as that. If you cancel wireless service, remaining balance on phone becomes due.

To find out if you’re eligible for a rebate or a promotion all you need to do is answer a few simple questions.

    Get started

Other carriers recover the cost of the phone with higher recurring monthly rate plan charges. Their customers continue to pay higher monthly rates even after the phone is paid off. Only T-Mobile offers a plan that automatically lowers the cost of the monthly bill when the phone is paid off.

We offer free, overnight shipping on certain new phones and devices. Otherwise, we will send your purchase using standard 2-4 business days shipping. Look for special promotions where all phones and devices include free, overnight shipping.

No. When you group phones into a family plan when purchasing on, you must either pay for all of them up front, or over time.

No. If you choose to pay over time, your payments will be interest-free.

You must purchase insurance within the first 14 days of buying a new device. To learn more about Premium Handset Protection Insurance or to learn about our other bundled features simply follow the link.

If you cancel your service, you still need to pay off the remaining balance of the device.

Unlike other carriers that give you a discounted rate on the phone up front and then bury the costs in your monthly bill, we charge you the full retail price. In order to make payments more manageable, qualifying new and current customers can take advantage of our Equipment Installment Plan (EIP).

    Here's how phone payments work:

EIP (Equipment Installment Plan) pricing allows qualifying customers to get a new phone with an initial down payment and make monthly payments on the phone for 20 months with no interest charges. For example, if you purchased a new phone for $550 and put $150 down, you pay $20/month for 20 months, plus the low monthly cost of your Value Plan. Value Plan pricing is only available at T-Mobile.

The following restrictions apply to all EIPs:

    • Non-Value plans, T‐Mobile Monthly4G prepaid plans and certain business accounts are not eligible for EIPs.
    • Customers in Washington, DC and Puerto Rico are not eligible for EIPs.
    • The minimum required purchase for an EIP is $19.99.
    • Due to state regulations, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, West Virginia and Wyoming do not allow purchases on a 24‐month EIP.
    • If you leave T-Mobile you’re still obligated to pay off the remaining balance of the device.

Learn more about our Equipment Installment Plan

Depending on which rate plan you choose, you may also be charged an add a line fee; see rate plan for details. Taxes and shipping will also be applied to your order total.

Whether you choose to pay for your device up front today, or pay over time, you can upgrade your device at any time. If your current device has not yet been paid off, you will need to continue to make payments on the existing balance. For the well-qualified buyer, pay over time pricing will spread interest-free payments over 24 months. If you cancel wireless service, remaining balance on phone becomes due.

You need a credit check for a couple of reasons. First, if you are applying for an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) it’s standard practice for us to check your credit. If you want to keep your existing phone number we need to determine if it’s eligible to be transferred.

Just like all other wireless carriers, T-Mobile has to charge enough to cover the cost of the phone. The difference is that T-Mobile separates the cost of the phone from the cost of the service. That means T-Mobile customers finish paying for their phone as soon the actual cost is paid off—and their monthly bill automatically drops.
